The Association of British Columbia Marine Industries (ABCMI) is proud to be the official provider of the BC Maritime Industries Infrastructure Modernization and Expansion Grant Program. This program will invest up to $25 million in non-repayable funding for projects that modernize, scale and increase regional capabilities and capacity for small vessel construction and either boat and ship dry dock or, overhaul, refit, maintenance and repair infrastructure in British Columbia.

What Will The Grant Do?

The scope of the program is to align marine industry projects to both the StrongerBC Economic Plan, creating economic and environmental benefits of clean and inclusive growth, and the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, meeting legislated emissions reduction targets.

The outcomes will greatly benefit marine industry organizations within British Columbia and are expected to:

  • Modernize, scale and expand industrial maritime infrastructure in B.C.
  • Attract new market demand and investment
  • Establish B.C. as a leader in innovative and high-value maritime activity
  • Stabilize and grow well-paying, high-quality and inclusive jobs
  • Provide opportunity for high-value knowledge based clean made-in-BC technologies
  • Contribute to a decrease of harmful air emissions

Who Is Eligible?

Eligible applicants must be for-profit organizations that:

  • Operate in the ship and boat building, refit, repair and maintenance sector.
  • Have been operating in B.C. for at least 24 months. 
  • Have an existing footprint in the province of British Columbia.
  • Can demonstrate being a viable operation through positive cash flow or have net positive assets.
  • Are not currently preparing the business for closure, dissolution, bankruptcy or sale.

Please note:

  • Not-for-profit organizations are not eligible. 
  • Organizations can apply individually, or in collaboration with other eligible applicants, if the primary applicant is an eligible entity.​​​​​​

What Types of Projects Are Funded?

There are two different streams which provide different levels of funding for projects:

Stream 1 - Smaller Capital Projects

  • 50% of capital costs up to $500,000
  • Equipment and facility modernization support for boat and shipyards OR new small vessel construction infrastructure 

Stream 2 - Larger Capital Projects

  • 25% of capital costs up to $5 million
  • Dry dock and wharfage expansion for boat and ship overhaul, refit, maintenance and repair infrastructure 

Note: The limited third intake will only accept applications for Stream 1 projects. Funds are limited for this third intake of the Grant Program and it is anticipated that only 4 – 6 projects will be approved.

 

How Does My Organization Apply?

We have completed two intakes, and we are now announcing a limited third intake exclusively for stream 1 applications due to limited available funding. 

Each funding round of the Program follows a two-step application process.

Step 1 - Expression of Interest (EOI)

  • To be completed through an online portal which opens April 25, 2024.
  • Company information and a high-level project overview will be entered here.
  • This step should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  • Companies will receive feedback within 10 to 15 days and successful EOI applicants can immediately begin Step 2.
  • Deadline for submitting an EOI is May 24, 2024.

Step 2 - Full Proposal (FP)

  • Detail on the proposed project will be submitted here.
  • We are available to provide support with your FP should you require it. 
  • Deadline for submitting completed FPs is June 07, 2024.

Companies will be notified as to the funding decision on July 04, 2024.

Timeline

  • We will start accepting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from April 25, 2024.
  • Deadline for submitting EOIs is May 24, 2024.
  • The deadline to receive Full Proposal (FP) is June 07, 2024.
  • To ensure maximum time for completing the FP, it is strongly recommended to submit the EOI as soon as the application window opens. 
  • Please note the deadline for submission will not be extended.
